About

Gregory Anderson

Rumors that Gregory was born in the hill country of West Virginia with black lung and “fingers of fire” are greatly exaggerated. Gregory actually took a very long route to bluegrass, starting in Atascadero, CA, with piano lessons at age 8. Nine instruments, 26 countries, 3 degrees and 8 different genres of music later, Gregory decided to put together a bluegrass band - in San Francisco, CA. Connecting with only 2 displaced Georgians who moved back home with the .com bust, Gregory knew he had to head east.

Ending up in Northern Virginia to attend George Mason University for yet another degree (why not?), he was able to use Craigslist to find 5 other ne’er-do-wells who like to drink, laugh, and occasionally, make music. He started Broken Pick in 2004, which has so far outlasted his previous bands “Harmony by the Bay” (barbershop quartet), “Vox Matrix” (vocal jazz quartet) and “Evantir” (Celtic Rock) by more than 4 years (do the math!).

Having learned bass just to have something to play in a band that had no use for a piano, Gregory hopes to keep Broken Pick together just long enough for him to learn to fiddle.
